A benchmark

I want to start this blog off with my current level of fitness/experience. Currently paddling Ocean
Kayak Sprinter. Nice fast plastic kayak. My training areas consist of flat water locations. One is Addis park on the Housatonic river and the other Lynne Deming park on Candlewood lake. Both locations give me access to mile after mile of paddling. For now my training consists of a long paddle, about 10 miles and a short paddle of about 6 miles. I use a Garmin Etrex to keep track of speed and distance.

My last 10 mile row was on Candlewood and took 1:58 with an average speed of 5.1 mph and top speed of 6.1 mph. This is with a Fenn wing and cadence of about 70 strokes per minute.

My last 6 mile paddle took 1:09 with an average speed of 5.2 mph and top speed of 6.1 mph.
