The Forward Stroke DVD 2nd Edition Review

Introduction

Two time Olympic Gold medalist, Greg Barton and ten time World Surf Ski champion, Oscar Chalupsky, have combined their expertise and experience to produce a DVD devoted completely to the forward stroke.

Rather than cover the typical beginner kayaking subjects this DVD focuses on the stroke itself, and that’s a good thing. Chapters include grip, stretching, posture, and of course a full break down of the stroke from multiple angles. Oscar and Greg trade time in front of the camera and guide the viewer through each section of the DVD. Slow motion sequences allow the user to see the correct position in any phase of the stroke. The use of a wing paddle and a conventional paddle are covered as well as a section, with Oscar of course, devoted to surfski paddling. An entire section is dedicated to common mistakes and another to practice drills.

Conclusion

Greg’s technique is a thing of beauty and totally humbling. This is a must have DVD if one is concerned with trying to perfect their stroke each and every time the paddle strikes the water.
